Dr. Ngo-Metzger has extensive clinical and research experience among immigrant populations.  She founded the first community health center in Chicago to serve Southeast Asian patients experiencing significant language and cultural barriers.  Her research interests include chronic disease care and quality of care for immigrants with limited-English language proficiency.  While on faculty at Harvard Medical School, she conducted one of the largest studies of quality of care of Asian Americans.  She examined the effects of culture, language, and ethnicity on patients’ perceptions of medical care by surveying over 3,000 Chinese and Vietnamese-American patients at 11 sites in 8 cities.  She has received NIH funding to examine end-of-life care for older immigrants. She has been awarded a Cancer Control Career Development Award from American Cancer Society and is a Robert Wood Johnson Generalist Physician Faculty Scholar. She has also received a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Award to address health disparities in Latino and Asian patients with type 2 diabetes. Dr. Ngo-Metger received her medical degree and residency training at the University of Chicago.  She completed her MPH degree and research fellowship in General Internal Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
