Biography
Carolyn A. Mendez-Luck, Ph.D., P.H., is an assistant professor of Community Health Sciences at the UCLA School of Public Health. Dr. Mendez-Luck received her Ph.D. and M.P.H. degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to joining the UCLA Public Health faculty, Dr. Mendez-Luck was a project director at the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research. She directed a study that applied an innovative small-area methodology to multiple large data sources to create sub-county estimates of hypertension, diabetes, asthma, obesity and health insurance coverage. These local-level data were the first of their kind and widely used by policy makers and advocates throughout California. Dr. Mendez-Luck is currently a pilot investigator with the UCLA Center for Health Improvement for Minority Elders (UCLA CHIME) and is the recipient of an NIH/NIA-funded diversity supplement with the UCLA CHIME. Her research interests include community-based participatory research methods, care giving of older Latinos and aging-related health disparities in this population.
